A Beautiful Conviction

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”          Colossians 2:6-8
We live in a world that is constantly trying to influence the way we think, act and feel. At times, it can be the most challenging thing to look at what those around us believe and not count it as truth. These are the moments that I am so grateful for the Word of God. It is verses like Colossians 2:6 that remind us we are rooted and built up in Christ and that we are not to allow the things of this world to deceive us.
Although this is an encouraging verse, I also believe it is a warning to us as believers. Paul is informing us that we need to be strong in the Lord and we need to walk in him. There will be things, people and ideas that will deceive us, and if we are not strong enough in our own beliefs, we will be swayed. We see this all throughout scripture, and it is truly a conviction for me, personally. When I am struggling through something, or battling a sin in my life, I am convicted to look at my walk with God, and I will usually discover that I was lacking in my connection with God in a certain area. This is something we all face in different seasons as believers. It is for this reason that God both warns and encourages us in His Word that these times will come, and we need to be prepared for them.
God never promised us that a life of following after Him would be easy, however He has equipped us with tools to strengthen and bless us through those battles.
Remember, when you are convicted of something in your life, seek God in that moment, and ask Him to reveal to you the areas in your life that need strengthening. He is so good to us, and wants to build us up to be strong men and women who are rooted in Him. Conviction is the start to a beautiful, growing time in the Lord - embrace it, and fall into it with Jesus, and He will be faithful to teach you and bless you through it.
Keep Fighting the Good Fight,
Brenda
